Dr. Ram Pandit is a literarian from the Mumbai region in the state of Maharashtra, Bharat (India).
He is primarily known in the Urdu, Hindi (and Marathi) literary circles for acting as a bridge connecting these reservoirs of knowledge, especially their poetry and fiction.
His Doctoral thesis is a landmark contribution in the history of the University of Mumbai. The subject was that of a Comparative Study of the Post-Independence Hindi-Urdu literature in India. He completed this thesis under the guidance of the scholar no less than Dr. Chandrakant Bandiwdekar. This was a the first and ever PhD in the history of the Mumbai University that was granted to a B.Com. (Hons.) graduate in the faculty of Arts, without the requiring them to pursue a Masters in either the Commerce or the Arts faculties, or even an M.Phil.
Dr. Pandit then went on to bring the rich poetic heritage of India’s Urdu language to Marathi, by selflessly supporting the Marathi Ghazal community, and nurturing it with poets as well as vocal artists alike. Over a couple of decades, he wrote several articles in prominent Marathi Newspapers on the art, craft, and science of Ghazal writing, and also participated in Workshops to hone new talent, along with encouraging them by providing feedback and guidance.
Coming from a family of Vedantic Scholars, Dr. Pandit is now more focussed on writing and editing on these topics to make them more accessible to the common man. Alongside, he also indulges in poetry writing, and writes under the pseudonym of ‘पद्मनंदन’ (‘Padmanandan’ means ‘Padma’s child’ – it is his mother’s name).
There is of course much more to Dr. Ram Pandit’s personality and his huge body of work, but we hope that this gives you at least a fair and faint idea of the length and breadth of it, if not the complete depth.
